statistics show that women represent the smallest slices of the economic pie in salaries and the largest slices in poverty.
In 1997 there were 17 million displaced homemakers in America. In 2010, the numbers are not to be found.

1 million 454 thousand between the ages of 55 to 59
917 thousand between the ages of 60 to 64
2 million 938 thousand between the ages of 65 and over
all living in poverty.

1989 4.6 million not in the labor force
In 1970, 35 million worked from the home more than half of the population.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 43 percent of adult women, or 41.6 million, were not in the labor force in 1989, including about 22 million married women, most of them dependent on the husband's income. The report said these women were especially vulnerable to becoming displaced homemakers, being ''just a man away from poverty.''
